Story continues below

Traditionally, Red Velvet cake is a chocolate layer cake with either a red, bright red or red-brown color, and comes topped with cream cheese or cooked roux icing.

Popeyes fast food version of the cake pretty much remains true to the original, featuring a decadent red velvet cake topped with sweet cream cheese icing.

But as Ian K. over at “Peep THIS Out!” points out, this is a “fast food” version, so you will have to accept a few compromises over versions available at medium to high end restaurants. On the other hand, you’re not going to have to pay high end prices for Popeyes Red Velvet Cake. Ian paid $1.99 for his Red Velvet cake.

Presentation wise, the cake hits all the right marks. Ian also gives Popeyes Red Velvet Cake high marks on taste and flavor – but he does have one caveat – it’s very reminiscent of a Hostess cupcake.”

That being said, Ian feels Popeyes Red Velvet Cake is “some of the best fast food dessert cake you can get right now.”
