Well, that’s the way the Android cookie crumbles. Google announced Monday that the next version of its popular mobile operating system will be named after an iconic cookie: Android Oreo.

Historically, Google names each new release of Android after sweet treats like Eclair, Ice Cream Sandwich and most recently, Nougat.
As part of the big Android 8.0 Oreo announcement today in New York City, custom Oreo cookies featuring the Android logo on the wafer embossment were also unveiled – an exclusive run created especially for the event.
Android Oreo Superhero
The new Android Oreo release is collaboration between the Oreo brand and Google, which also includes the debut of the Android Oreo superhero. Google said the new hero “originated from a “wondrous, and unique, moment in time – the 2017 solar eclipse. “
