McDonald’s celebrates the 50th birthday of the Big Mac with the return of the Mac Jr. and Grand Big Mac.

The Mac Jr. is basically a smaller, single patty version of its iconic big brother with all the Big Mac accoutrements, including a slice of American cheese minus the middle bun.

On the other hand, the Grand Big Mac is larger than its namesake with two, one-third pound beef patties, plus an extra slice of American cheese, all served on an even bigger sesame seed bun.

Both returning burgers also feature the other iconic Big Mac ingredients: special sauce, lettuce, pickles, and onions.

From what I understand, both returning burgers are rolling out nationwide through the end of January and will only be available for a limited time. So if you don’t currently see these burgers on your local McDonald’s menu, just keep checking back, they should be available by January 31.

Food reviewer Ian Keiner (Peep THIS OUT!) spotted the pair of burgers on the menu in Pasadena, California earlier this week.

Incidentally, McDonald’s is also introducing the Mac Jr. and Grand Big Mac in new international markets, including the UK as well as other European countries and possibly Canada (although not confirmed).

The Big Mac was first introduced as a local menu item in the Greater Pittsburgh area in 1967, but due to its popularity, the Big Mac was taken nationwide the following year in 1968.
