
Recognized New York pastry chef Gina DePalma has died, Eater reported Wednesday morning. DePalma had been battling ovarian cancer for several years prior to her passing.

Chef Mario Batali tweeted the following on news of DePalma’s passing:

On Sept. 28, DePalma took to Twitter to let her friends and fans know that she was off to the hospital for a second cancer surgery.
Off to the hospital at an ungodly hour. I'm having a second cancer surgery today, tweeps. (1st was in 2007) Wish me luck. xo

On October 24, she tweeted the following messages to her friends and fans, explaining the reason for her absence from Twitter.
No tweets from me since 9/28. I had a very complicated cancer surgery, was in the hospital for 2 weeks, and am still down for the count.

I am looped on painkillers still, but have chosen today to re-appear with this statement: Macaroni and cheese does not need pumpkin. TY
