Made with 100 percent real mozzarella cheese, these cheese sticks are breaded with wheat flour, onion, garlic and a pinch of salt.
That pinch of salt really needs to be brought into perspective, so we’ll get into that later.
McDonald’s says the sticks are served hot with a side of zesty tomato-based marinara sauce with Italian herbs and spices.
My sticks were mostly warm, not hot. As far as taste, well, not so much. The included marinara sauce adds another layer of flavor, but it really didn’t add to the overall flavor profile.
McDonald’s Mozzarella Sticks hit the spot on the price point, but not where it counts, overall taste and satisfaction.
As with most cheese products, these things pack a sodium punch. Just 3 pieces contain 560 mg of salt. I could easily put back a dozen of these without thinking about it, so approach with caution if you’re watching salt intake.

My experience has been mixed. I’ve tried these things a few times mainly due to the price. As mentioned in the review, they usually arrive warm, not hot. Taste is hard to pin down, but it’s very plain. The sauce only masks the flavor of the stick. You could easily substitute with a breadstick and you’d have a difficult time telling the difference.
