The loyalty program will be built around the burger chain’s smartphone app, according to the Nation’s Restaurant News.

“We’re working on a customer-designed loyalty program that we think will be as good as there is out there in the marketplace,” McDonald’s USA president Mike Andres was quoted as saying.

The company’s app has been downloaded 7.5 million times, according to Andres.

Andres also indicated the program could be linked to customer purchases and the number of monthly visits they make to the chain’s restaurants. Customers would also have a limited amount of time to take advantage of any deals being offered through the program.

According to Andres, the loyalty program could be used to entice customers to come back if they haven’t visited a restaurant in a while.
