It kind of flew under the radar, nonetheless, it was historic in nature, and involved a delivery drone and a 7-Eleven Slurpee. What could possibly go wrong?

We’d like to tell you about a crash-and-burn delivery by drone story, because as you know if it bleeds it leads, but we’ll have to shelve our gloom and doom story for another day.

Slurpee Overhead!

Earlier this month, 7-Eleven teamed up with Flirtey, an independent drone delivery service, to make a delivery to a customer’s home from one of its Reno, Nevada stores. The two-part delivery included Slurpee drinks, a chicken sandwich, donuts, hot coffee and 7-Select candy.

Once the drone reached the customer’s backyard – about a mile from the store – the Flirtey drone hovered in place and gently lowered its payload.

The delivery was also a first, in the sense that it marked the first ever FAA-approved drone delivery to customer’s Home. Eat your heart out Amazon.

Continued Drone Delivery Testing

7-Eleven and Flirtey plan to continue their collaboration and expand drone delivery testing. In the future, they expect drone packages to include “everyday essentials” such as batteries and sunscreen.
