Green Cup Controversy

Green is not the new Red as confusion reigned on Tuesday with rumors on social media that Starbucks was replacing its red holiday cup with a new limited-time green holiday cup.

Well, it’s true, Starbucks did introduce a new green cup, but it’s not replacing the coffee chain’s traditional red holiday cup. We already know the design of this year’s red holiday cup after a Starbucks employee leaked a photo of the 2016 red holiday cup on Reddit.

Here’s what Starbucks said about the new limited-time green cup:

The green cup and the design represent the connections Starbucks has as a community with its partners (employees) and customers. During a divisive time in our county, Starbucks wanted to create a symbol of unity as a reminder of our shared values, and the need to be good to each other.

Starbucks commissioned artist Shogo Ota to create the artwork.

Starbucks holiday beverages are available in participating Starbucks stores in the US throughout the season while supplies last.
