Taking a page directly out of Wendy’s playbook, McDonald’s announced today that by mid-2018, it will serve fresh beef, prepared when ordered, in all Quarter Pounder burgers in most of its US restaurants.

McDonald’s said the move to fresh beef is just the latest step the company is making to meet customers’ changing expectations.

The chain initially tested on-demand Quarter Pounder burgers using fresh beef in 325 select locations across the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, and 77 restaurants in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fresh beef remains on the menu today at many, if not all, of the of the Texas test locations.

McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burger lineup includes the Quarter Pounder, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese, the Quarter Pounder with Cheese Deluxe and Signature Crafted Recipe burgers.

Look for fresh beef to start appearing on a majority of McDonald’s menus starting sometime in the summer of 2018.
