Are you sitting down? Because Burger King is reportedly upgrading the recipe used to prepare its signature Whopper sandwich.
According to Ian Keiner (Peep This Out!), the “New Whopper” is slowly rolling out this week without the fanfare normally associated with a “new and improved” product launch.
The upgraded Whopper sandwich features a “homestyle” beef patty that’s irregularly shaped and not round like a traditional Whopper patty. Ian also reports the upgraded Whopper is seasoned for the first time with salt & pepper – not normal practice for the Whopper build.
While the recipe upgrade appears minor at first glance, any change could result in consumer backlash. New Coke immediately comes to mind as a cautionary tale against messing too extensively with an iconic brand/product.

Originally introduced in 1957, the Whopper has undergone a variety of reformulations over the years, including bun upgrades and size changes.
