The rumor/news arrives via Reddit user Destron5683, by way of a Reddit post titled “It’s Coming…. April 11,” accompanied by a photo of the Angry Whopper intended for internal company use.
The Angry Whopper rumor dovetails with a March 18, 2019 Los Angeles casting call for fans of the Argry Whopper to participate in a paid focus group/market study session.
“We’re looking for men and women ages 20-40 to participate in a short, fun focus group to discuss Burger King’s spiciest burger,” stated call-out by InfoList, an entertainment industry online resource that provides information on jobs, opportunities, events and casting.
Originally introduced in the US back in 2008/2009, the Angry Whopper featured a flame-grilled beef patty, topped with jalapeños, “Angry Sauce” and “Angry Onions”, pepper jack cheese and bacon on a toasted sesame seed bun.
Burger King followed up on the Angry Whopper with a variation called the Angriest Whopper a few years later in 2016. The Angriest Whopper featured a savory flame-grilled beef patty, thick-cut bacon, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, crispy onion petals, jalapeños, creamy mayonnaise and spicy angry sauce all layered between a fiery red bun that has hot sauce baked in.
Incidentally, the “Angry King” is now back on the menu at participating Burger King locations in Canada, which is a very good sign the US rumor is more fact than fiction.
What’s notable about the Canadian twist on the Angry Whopper is the fact that the Angry King features a pair of quarter-pound beef patties along with what appears to be American cheese.
