According to the episode synopsis, when Jon arrives at the Corner Pocket II he finds a bar with an absent owner, an untrained staff, and an infestation of pests.

Former college football player Carlos Walker bought the Corner Pocket in a state of disrepair back in 2009. Carlos, who has a large family, doesn’t have a lot of time to spend at the bar, so he hired former school teacher Candy to manage the bar in his absence. While Candy is a willing manager, she lacks the skills required to manage the failing bar. Add untrained staff into the mix and you have a bar that’s reportedly losing $5,000 a month and an owner in debt to the tune of $150,000.

During the rescue/makeover, which happened back in late August early September, 2022, Jon decided to change the name of Corner Pocket II to The Gateway Pub & Grill.
