For those not familiar, the Boston Cooler is a local favorite named after Boston Boulevard in the Detroit. The creamy treat consists of mix of Vernors – a variety of ginger ale soda – and vanilla ice cream.
Vernors is the oldest surviving ginger ale brand in the United States – created in 1866 by Detroit pharmacist James Vernor.
Overall, 28 McDonald’s in the Detroit area will be participating in the Boston Cooler giveaway. The giveaway takes place from 1 – 5 p.m., and McDonald’s expects to hand out about 10,000 of the treats over the four hours – or as long as supplies last.
Just take note that no purchase is necessary, but there is a limit of one per customer.
